Bobcats & Orioles Reunite This Weekend
By Jessica Wald
About 300 people are set to gather in Streeter this weekend, as the Streeter/Gackle-Streeter High School Reunion is scheduled for Saturday, June 28 in Streeter.
Secretary/Treasurer of the Streeter Alumni, Marsha (Wieland) Schlecht (a 1982 SHS grad) reported the first Streeter HS alumni reunion was held in July of 1973 and later on, after schools combined, the S/G-S alumni reunion has been held every five years.
Schlecht noted it’s been ten years since a gathering was held, as the last one was canceled due to the Covid pandemic in 2020. “It will be nice to catch up and visit,” she noted of the past due alumni event, where grads of both high schools, along with teachers/staff are invited to attend.
The reunion will begin on Saturday with coffee, cookies and visiting from 2-6 p.m. at the Streeter Senior Center, hosted by sisters, Norma (Rau) Nelson (1962 SHS grad) and JoAnn (Rau) Wieland (1960 SHS grad).
Artist Shona Dockter, who is a 1981 SHS grad, is hosting an art show from 2-5 at the Streeter Senior Citizens Center and 40% of proceeds will benefit the Center. Dockter’s show is open to the public and will feature familiar local landscapes from Logan and Stutsman counties. “For me, it’s really about honoring our grandparents, parents and friends and family,” said Shona. “The way of life; what we knew growing up,” she noted of her paintings.
Registration, social and the banquet will follow at the Streeter City Hall. The live band, Train Wrecks, will start playing at 8:30 and to conclude the evening.
Schlecht said as of last week there were 285 people registered for the reunion. “We are hoping for nice weather and a fun get-together,” added Marsha.
Schlecht said there will be reunion souvenirs for sale, such as key chains, travel tumblers and koozies. For any questions, information or to register for the event, contact Marsha Schlecht at. 701-269-0140.
