Napoleon School Board Accepts Pair Of Resignations

The Napoleon Public School Board met last Monday, April 15 for their regular monthly meeting to discuss and review agenda items, which included two resignations after the school year is finished. All board members were present including President Taylor Grunefelder, Tori Gross, Shawn Puklich, Corey Schumacher and Jeff Schneider, along with Superintendent Rich Bjerklie, HS Principal Chad Berger and Elementary Principal Whitney Weigel. 

Bjerklie noted they received resignations from school counselor, Cindy Weigel (29 years with the school) and math teacher Rebecca Meidinger (9-years). The board approved both resignations for the end of the 2023/2024 school years. 

In other business a unanimous vote was cast to enter into executive session to discuss administration and athletic director negotiation strategies.  The board and Bjerklie were in ES for about a half hour, with no motions made and no discussion or updates afterwards.

Approved contracts for the 2024/2025 school year include: Kecia Ellison - English $46,450; Christina Gross - 6th Grade $51,575; Loretta Haas - Science $61,450; Heather Hase - Speech $68,774; Jana Hilzendeger - 4th Grade $45,025; Autumn Horner - Special Education $55,650; Casey Iszler - Counselor $48,948.06; Terri Jangula - Title $59,075; Andrea Leier - Librarian $54,325; Shelly Mann - 1st Grade $61,825; Adriana McCleary - 2nd Grade $49,425; Kelly McCleary - Title/Reading/Math $50,850; Kriss McCleary - PE $53,275; Mary Meyer - Kindergarten $55,275; Tami Naaden - Home Economics $63,917.14; Jennifer Piatz - 5th Grade $59,450; Stephanie Ripplinger - 3rd Grade $45,975; Jennifer Schmitt - Special Education $58,125; Brian Schneider - Vo Ag $79,750; Bryan Schumacher - Business $62,849.71; Dana Strong - History $63,250; Nancy Thompson - Title $60,975. 

Bjerklie said there is a request to purchase Chromebooks and laptops, to keep with the rotating out the old/broken electronics. The board approved the purchase (40 Chromebooks and 29 computers) new tech electronics at $50,090.36. 

The upcoming School Board Election was approved to be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 7 a.m. in the school gymnasium foyer. The board also approved to hire election workers: Pat Stein, Claudia Schulz, Connie Olson and Debbie Bedette. 

Bjerklie noted they are ordering paper, but had to make the board aware since it is over $3K, at $3,103.20 for 2-pallets of paper. 

The board received a request from the Napoleon FCCLA, to help three students and one chaperone with costs to go to nationals. The board approved to give. . .
