School Discusses AD Quotes;

The entire board was present for the regular meeting of the Napoleon School Board meeting last Monday, December 8, when several topics were up for discussion.

In attendance included Board President Taylor Grunefelder, Corey Schumacher, Derrick Leier, Shawn Puklich and Tori Gross, along with administration; Superintendent Rich Bjerklie, HS Principal/Activities Director Chad Berger and Elem. Principal Whitney Weigel. 

Berger presented the following quotes from Game One for sports equipment and uniforms which were approved: 28 football helmets reconditioning, $2,570.40; 40 football home and 40 away varsity uniforms plus 40 pants, $18,096.32; miscellaneous football equipment, $3,582.49; 17 elementary football helmets, $3,376.19; 18 varsity football helmets,  $7,456.84; track uniforms, $5,572.29.

The board approve the purchase of 40 elementary volleyball uniforms from Napoleon Trophy Haus for $840.

Under agenda line item “board discussion”, President Grunefelder read off a prepared letter after speaking with some of the public he feels the board needs to be more transparent and there are a few things from the last board meeting that need to be cleared up regarding the teachers contracts/policy. A copy of the letter from Grunefelder stated: “The timing for the change of policy was due to the fact that legislation determines a lot of policy. The policy was waiting for legislation, so all policies could be changed or updated at the same time. School hours are policy and are changeable by the board without negotiations,” he read. 

“When the policy committee met, there were no intentions of changing staff hours, but it was brought to their attention by community members that the doors were opening at 8:10 and students were waiting either outside or in the entry way. The policy committee felt it was the best interest for the students to have the doors open at 8, which in turn would require staff to show up 15 minutes earlier. In turn benefiting the students who would like some extra help or would like to eat breakfast.”
