Sheriff Presents Citizens With Certificates of Appreciation
By Jessica Wald
Two residents, along with two out of state hunters, were presented with certificates during the regular monthly meeting of the Logan County Commissioners last Wednesday, September 9, 2026.
Sheriff Andrew Bartholomaus told commissioners Blanche Schumacher and Bryan Batsch, as Chairman John Wald was absent, how bystanders courageously helped him out when a guy started to fight him. The sheriff noted a relapse of the situation that took place in Gackle on August 15. He said he looked back at the footage and within 18 seconds four individuals had jumped in to help him out. He noted Deputy Marolt was on his way for backup, but due to the far distance, he was a few miles out when it took place.
“This was a bad situation that went well; It’s important to help out when in need. I’m really grateful for where we live, I love where I work; there’s good people around,” said Bartholomaus. He then presented certificates of appreciation, along with badges and Dani’s Place gift certificates to residents, Preston Martin and Matthew Ruff, as he introduced them to commissioners, and also said he mailed two to Minnesota residents Donovan Schmid and Tate Erickson, who goose hunt in the area. “It’s a big deal and needs to be a big deal,” he said when people step up and help out. “We want to show our gratitude and appreciation for helping out our department,” he concluded. Commissioners also gave their thanks to the four individuals who helped Bartholomaus with the situation.
