Sheriff’s Department Shows Consistency

By Jessica Wald

While sharing a 2024 review of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, Sheriff Andrew Bartholomaus highlighted the department’s consistency. Bartholomaus, who has served the department for 14 years, said, “The year [2024] was fairly consistent; it went really well, with its normal ups and downs.”

He said one positive for the department is the years of service for Logan County, with deputies, Mike Marolt at 10 years, Kyle Friez at 3 and Brian Jangula with 5 years in. “We’re fortunate for that; many other county departments are short staffed. There’s experience and they know their jobs,” there’s consistency; “we’re blessed with that,” he said.

As the department’s primary mission is to serve and protect the community, Bartholomaus shared how they’ve been keeping up with different trainings, along with getting out in the community with different outreach efforts. The department needs to have 60 hours of training every three years. “We stay up on that and try to outdo that number; in every situation, we want to be prepared,” he noted, while going over several training opportunities, such as a night time shooting drill at the Napoleon Wildlife Club shooting range.

“We also want to keep a friendly relationship throughout the communities. We take any opportunity we can to create that relationship,” he explained while noting several community outings, such as reading to students in the library for reading month or taking the deputy K9, Tora, into the schools. “We are here to help out and not be intimidating, especially in the schools. We want to be a friendly face.”

Bartholomaus said along with patrolling the county, the department also has. . .
