8 Wrestlers Place At Early Bird

After a 2-year hiatus, the Napoleon Early Bird Wrestling Tournament was back on track Sat., Dec. 6. There were 9 teams participating in the boy’s tournament with the Imperials placing third with 130.5 team points. South Border won the team title with 255 points.

As for the Imperials, head coach Kriss McCleary saw 8 of his 9 wrestlers place in the top eight. Junior Bryce Scheneider (152 lbs.) and freshman Brooks Grunefelder (160 lbs.) both placed first in their respective weight classes. The Imperials also had four wrestlers in the finals, who ended up second. Seventh grader Trey Rau (107 lbs.), eighth grader Beau Grunefelder (139 lbs.), and eighth grader Westen Baumgartner (145 lbs.). Other NGS wrestlers placing were eighth grader Brandon Gruneich 6th at 114 lbs., and 7th grader Ayden Mann fifth at 172 lbs.
