Erbele Has Triple-Double In Win Over Clippers
The Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter boys’ basketball team picked up a District 6 win last Thursday, Jan. 19, as they topped the Strasburg-Zeeland Clippers 70-57.
The Clippers used a zone defense for much of the contest, forcing the Imperials to shoot from the outside. NGS tallied six triples on the night and Imperial head coach Andrew Pike saw a balanced scoring attack as four players reached double figures. Leading the pack was senior post player Trenton Erbele who had a triple-double with 21 points (1-3), 23 rebounds, 11 assists and six steals; junior Trevor Moos 16 (1-3), junior Braxton Ryum 13 (3-3’s) and sophomore Tristan Schaffner 11. Others reaching the scoring line were Carter Haas 7 (1-3) and Eli Ketterling 2.
The Imperials got off to a slow start as they trailed 9-13 after the first quarter. In the remaining three stanzas in Strasburg the Imperials scored 20 or more, as they tallied 22 in the second, 20 in the third and 21 in the final frame.
At halftime NGS erased the deficit as they held a 2-point, 31-29 lead.
