Friday Night Lights Back In Action

The Imperials are back on the field and ready for Friday night lights, as the N/G-S football season kicked off last Thursday, August 7, with the first practice.

NHS 2019 graduate Jamison Fettig is a first year head coach for NGS. Fettig’s previous experience includes coaching JH one year and assistant varsity coach for the last two years. Fettig replaced NGS coach Kelly McCleary who is moving from the area. 

Fettig reported three more out for football this year, with 17 athletes at the first practice. It is also the first year in the last decade that a player from the Gackle-Streeter School District is on the varsity team. 

“Our main goal as a coaching staff is to try and build a winning program and to get the kids to enjoy football and want to be there and succeed,” added Jamison, who is joined by Assistant Coach Taylor Grunefelder and Volunteer Coach Joe Cichy. “Our team goal is always the same; to get to the playoffs and make a run from there.”

This year the team sports two senior athletes, while the team lost seven seniors due to graduation last year.
