Imperials Advance To Quarterfinals

A strong first half for the Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 9-man football team carried the team to a 36-22 first round win in Class B football on Saturday, Oct. 25. The Imperials (7-2), unranked and the fourth seed in Region 4 traveled to Alexander, a four-hour bus ride, where they faced the Comets (9-0), ranked 4th in the 16-team bracket. With the win, the Imperials will travel to Hankinson on Saturday, Nov. 1 where they will face the Pirates (5th ranked) at 1:30 p.m.

Last Saturday at Alexander NGS head coach Jamison Fettig and his squad put on an impressive first half performance. The Imperial defense held the Comets scoreless in the first half, while NGS put up 30 first half points, to hold a 30-0 lead at intermission.

The Imperials had first possession which had them start on their own 36-yard line. This drive, which had NGS facing a 4th and four on the 42, and they converted, and the drive continued for a total of 14 plays, as junior quarterback Bryce Schneider found freshman Carson Piatz on a 4-yard passing play touchdown. Schneider then found another freshman, Easten Baumgartner through the air for the 2-point conversion and an 8-0 lead with 6:23 on the clock.

After a defensive stand by the visitors, the Imperials forced the Comets to turn the ball over on downs on the 38-yard line. The Imperials wasted little time, and seven plays later Schneider found junior wide receiver Jackson Piatz on a 20-yard passing route, which tallied another touch 6 for NGS. The attempted PAT on the ground came up short as the Imperials held a 14-0 lead with 2:22 to play in the first. Another Imperial defensive stop had Alexander turn the ball over on downs to close out the first quarter.

NGS started on the 44-yard line to start the second quarter. NGS was facing a fourth and six when Schneider found. . .
