Imperials Open With Home Win
The Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter girls’ basketball team opened their season at home with a 51-37 win over Center-Stanton.
NGS senior Ali Gross had a double/double as she led all scorers with 15 and she also pulled down 15 boards to help lead the Imperials to the Tues., Dec. 2 win.
Second year head coach Paul Erbele and his squad offered a balanced scoring attack, with 7 Imperials scoring, against the full-court pressure defense provided by the Wildcats.
For both teams, the first game jitters seemed to show a bit as the Wildcats had 39 turnovers compared to 32 for the Imperials.
The Imperials scored first on a 10 ft.-bank shot by eighth grader Dawson Erbele. This ice-breaker managed to get the Imperial offense going as they held a 7-0 lead about midway through the first. The Imperials seemed to handle the full-court pressure offered by the Wildcats which garnered the home team numerous layups on the transition. The first quarter closed with the Imperials holding a 10-point 16-6 lead.
The second frame the Imperials managed to build upon their lead, as they pulled out to a 25-9 lead midway through the second quarter. The Imperials ended up scoring 12 in the second while giving up another 6 points to hold a 28-12 lead at intermission.
Both teams collected their fair share of fouls on the night as the Imperials had 21 and C-S had 22.
