Imperials Sending 7 To State
The Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter boys’ wrestling team had 9 wrestlers entered in the Class B East Region tournament in Grafton on Sat., Feb. 15. Of the 9 Imperials competing, 7 have punched their ticket to the State Class B Tournament in Fargo starting Thurs., Feb. 20.
Imperials advancing to the State B for NGS head coach Kriss McCleary are: a pair of seniors, 1st place Dalton Feist at 114 lbs. and 3rd place Mason Weigel at 160 lbs. Feist takes a 37-2 record to the state tournament as he mowed down the competition enroute to his region title. Weigel lost in quarterfinal action and will take a 37-6 record to the big dance. The five other wrestlers who state qualified for NGS are under classmen: eighth grader Brooks Grunefelder took third place at 133 lbs., a pair of sophomores who finished in 5th place - Bryce Schneider at 145 lbs. and Andre Doll at 215 lbs.; and a pair of seventh graders - 6th place Westen Baumgartner at 127 lbs. and 8th place Beau Grunefelder at 121 lbs.
