Imperials Win 50-8 On Homecoming

The Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 9-man football team gained 422 yards of offense last Fri., Oct. 4 during their homecoming game as they beat the New Salem-Almont Holsteins 50-8.

The hometown Imperial offense got off to rough start, but the defense, which held strong all night, held strong on the Holsteins first drive. The Imperials had first touch and on the second play of the night NGS junior quarterback Bryce Schneider had his first pass attempt of the night picked off on the NGS 27-yard line. The Holsteins moved the ball all the way to the 1-yard line before being forced to turn the ball over on downs at the 8:51 mark of the first. Roughly four minutes later and a 9-play drive by NGS which moved the ball all the way to the 2-yard line before Schneider was picked off once again, stopping the NGS threat. Two plays later the Imperial defense came up big for head coach Jamison Fettig as junior lineman Andre Doll recovered a loose ball on the NS-A 2-yard line. On the very next play from scrimmage QB Schneider carried for the 2-yard TD. Schneider passed to junior wide receiver Jackson Piatz for the PAT to give NGS an 8-0 lead with 3:17 to round out first quarter scoring.

The Imperials had first possession in the second quarter and capped a 7-play drive for a TD when Schneider found freshman running back Brooks Grunefelder on a 15-yard route at the 9:40 mark of the first half. Schneider carried for the Imperial PAT to give the home team a 16-0 lead. The Imperial defense allowed the Holsteins to run. . .
