Second Half Rally Comes Up Short
A second half rally by the Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter boys’ basketball team wasn’t enough as the Imperials lost to Kidder County 51-56 in District 2 loser out action.
The #5 seed Imperials outscored the #7 seed Wolves 41-28 in the second half after a rough first half for the Imperials. NGS head coach Logan Klitzke and his squad struggled in the first half of play at the Jamestown Civic Center last Monday, March 3 as they couldn’t get their offense on track as they only made 4-21 (19%) of their shots from the field in the first 16 minutes of play, however in the second half they shot 50%, making 15-30.
The Imperials held an early 3-2 lead before the Wolves tallied 9 and the Imperials only a deuce, as the first quarter closed with NGS trailing 7-13.
As things carried over to the second frame things turned even worse for NGS as they had a 6-minute drought as the Wolves tacked on 10 points to hold a 7-23 lead. It wasn’t until the midway point of the second frame that junior Bill Schmitt broke the ice to get the Imperials on the board. Senior Tristan Schaffner, who had 5 of the Imperials first quarter points, added a free toss in the second to round out the three second quarter points, as NGS found themselves down 20, 10-30 at the break.
Following the break the Wolves upped their lead to 22 points which was the largest of the game before the Imperials managed to find the bottom the net with the first score, a trey, coming two minutes into the third for NGS by Schaffner. This was one of. . .
