Tough First Quarter Leads To Girls Loss

January 15, 2025

A rough first quarter spelled defeat for the Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter girls’ basketball team.

The Imperials were host to Kidder County on Mon., Jan. 6 and the Wolves came away with a 31-55 win over the Imperials.

It was just shy of halfway through the first quarter when the Imperials got on the board, thanks to a pair of free tosses by Hope Gross, as NGS trailed 2-12. The Wolves full court pressure defense was a bit much for the Imperials to handle and they turned the ball over 29 times on the night, with many of the turnovers turning into points for the Wolves. The only other points for NGS in this quarter was a fast break deuce by Claire Piatz, as the Imperials trailed 4-21 with one quarter in the books.

NGS head coach Paul Erbele and his squad turned things around in the second frame a bit as they trailed 8-26 with 4:07 to play in the half. The first half closed with the Imperials trailing 12-35.

After the break the Imperials scored 8 third quarter points while giving up 11 as the teams headed into the final frame with NGS. . .
