Water Fees Likely To Remain The Same

A couple of city leaders, Napoleon Mayor Todd Moos and long-time city council member Rod Kleppe, met Thurs. May 2 to review the financial numbers along with comparing what other cities connected to rural water are charging residents for water.

According to Mayor Moos, “Based on the numbers we have, rates will likely remain, (if voters approve the switch to rural water).” Currently city of Napoleon is charging $78/quarter (which includes 3,000 gallons of water) and $5/1,000 gallons used.

The analysis which Moos and Kleppe discovered is based on projected collected fees and expenses for Napoleon City water. They believe by switching to the rural water supply, costs to city residents would not have to be increased at this time. This recommendation was to be taken to the Napoleon City Council at the Mon., May 6 meeting.

Napoleon city residents will be voting on the rural water question at the June 11 primary election. At the April 29 public information meeting the question was raised as to what residents will be charged if the the switch to rural water is made. At the April meeting city officials did not have that information and since people may already be voting by absentee ballot, city officials believed it to be important to offer this information prior to May 6 regular city council meeting.
