Imperials Offer Shutout On Homecoming
It was homecoming for Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter and the Imperial defense offered a shut out to the visiting Richardton-Taylor/Hebron Raiders 9-man football team. With the win 50-0 NGS improves to 4-0 on the season while RTH falls to 2-2. In the latest class B 9-man poll the Imperials were rated 4th.
In front of large crowd in Napoleon, the Imperials wasted little time scoring as they reached pay dirt on the 6th play as the senior combination of quarterback Bryce Schneider and wide receiver Jackson Piatz connected on a 60-yard strike in the middle of the field. Schneider carried for the 2-point conversion as NGS led 8-0 with 9:26 to play in the first quarter.
The Imperial defense, which was stellar all night, forced the Raiders to turn the ball over on downs on their first series. With the Imperials now starting near midfield, they ran seven plays into the wind before QB Schneider was picked off by Sig Gjermundson on the 25-yard line. Four plays later sophomore Carson Piatz capped the drive as he reached pay dirt from 11 yards out. Schneider carried for the PAT as NGS led 16-0 with 1:42 to play in the first stanza. The Imperials then offered a short kick which was recovered by junior Brennan Bernard on the NGS 42-yard line. Three plays later NGS found the end zone when Carson Piatz pulled in a Schneider pass for a 33-yard strike. Schneider then once again carried for the PAT to give NGS a commanding 24-0 lead. Following the ensuing kickoff by NGS, the Raiders fumbled the ball which was recovered by junior Michael Moch on the Raiders 46-yard line to close out the first quarter.
